Georgian Turkology – Past, Present, Future

On December 11, 2021, the Department of Turkology at Tbilisi State University organized an online seminar on ”Georgian Turkology: Past, Present, and Future.”

The event was organized in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Georgia, Ilia State University, and the University of Georgia.

The seminar brought together distinguished participants, including TSU Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze; Her Excellency Fatma Ceren Yazgan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia; Rector of the University of Georgia Konstantine Topuria; Professor Giorgi Sanikidze, Director of the Giorgi Tsereteli Institute of Oriental Studies at Ilia State University; Education Adviser Yüksel Kara, as well as representatives of the academic community and students from the partner universities.

During the plenary session, speakers highlighted the significance of the event and expressed confidence that the objectives set, along with the ideas and recommendations put forward, would contribute to the advancement of the discipline and provide effective responses to contemporary challenges.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the organizing committee presented a final resolution to the audience. The document was based on the initiatives and recommendations formulated during both the sectional discussions and the plenary session.

The seminar, regarded as an important event in Georgian Turkology, was covered by the press.
